An artist working with hand tools in his studio.

Richard Wilshire is a contemporary artist based in London. He combines traditional woodworking techniques with found materials, creating sculptural, mixed-media works.

He is particularly drawn to objects that might otherwise be overlooked — offcuts, fragments, and everyday materials. By bringing these elements together, he creates new relationships, inviting viewers to slow down and derive meaning from the arrangement of the ordinary.

His practice is rooted in a straightforward idea: that value and beauty aren’t inherent, but emerge through context and looking more closely at the objects that surround us.

Richard studied Art and Design in Manchester in the 1990s and holds a master’s degree in Communication Design. Alongside his artistic practice, he has spent more than twenty years working in London’s design industry, a background that refined his approach to craft.
